Waikiki 株塾 Cup Announces Addition of ATP Rising Star Jenson Brooksby!

Kei Nishikori withdraws from singles play; will participate in all VIP events.

HONOLULU (Nov. 28, 2022) — Jenson Brooksby, ranked No. 48 on the ATP Tour, joins the list of exciting players preparing to hit the hard courts at the Waikiki 株塾 Cup. The event will take place December 16-18, 2022, at the newly renovated tennis courts at Fort DeRussy Beach Park in Waikiki, Hawaii.

In 2022, Brooksby made it to the semifinals in Seoul and the finals in Atlanta and Dallas. He achieved a career-high of No. 33 in June 2022 when he defeated six-time champion John Isner in Atlanta.

“I’m excited to visit Hawaii and play in the Waikiki 株塾 Cup,” Brooksby said. “It is a great opportunity to get match play in before the 2023 season and to meet fans in a smaller setting. I have to thank Ben for inviting me and I'm looking forward to the experience.”

Brooksby joins Mackenzie McDonald, CoCo Vandeweghe and Claire Liu for singles match play. Kei Nishikori has withdrawn from singles play due to injury. Nishikori will still participate all VIP events including the Player’s Party, and the golf and tennis pro ams, and will serve as a commentator during the exhibition matches.

“I am disappointed that I will not be able to play against Mackie, but I’m glad Jenson is joining us in Honolulu,” Nishikori said. “I’m looking forward to hanging out with everyone in Waikiki.”

The tennis pro-am and exhibition matches will be held outdoors in a new 500-seat, newly renovated stadium. Fans can be part of the on-court action with a feature unique to the Waikiki 株塾 Cup: player coaches are mic’d up, seated on-court, and fully permitted to coach during matches.
